The Month Of Jamadi’ Ul Akhir

Each month in the Islamic calendar is significant in its own way. Almost every month features an obligatory event or a festivity that offers Muslims the opportunity to earn extra blessings.

Jamadi-ul-Akhir is the sixth month in the Islamic Calendar. It is also known as Jamadi-us-Sani and Jamada II. The translation of Jamadi us-Sani can be broken down into two points. Firstly ‘Jumada’ means ‘parched land’; and ‘us-Sani’ means ‘the second’; this is because Jamadi us-Sani is preceded by Jamadi al-Awwal, the first of the dry months.

Important events that took place in this month are:

3rd Jamadi’ ul Akhir – The shahadat of Janabe Fatima al-Zahra (s.a) (according to some scholars also on the 13th of Jamadi al-Awwal).

13th Jamadi’ ul Akhir – The Wafat of Janabe Ummul Banin (s.a) (Mother of the Sons). Janabe Ummul Banin (s.a) is one of the most honourable personalities in Islam. Her love, respect and devotion to the children of Janabe Fatima (s.a) is well known. Bibi Ummul Banin (s.a) placed her mourning for Imam Hussain (a.s) ahead of the sorrow that she felt for her sons Hazrat Abbas ibn Ali (a.s), Hazrat Abd’allah, Hazrat Ja’far and Hazrat Uthman all of whom were also martyred in the battle of Ashura. This shows that she had a high level of true religious knowledge. Janabe Ummul Banin’s grave in al-Baqi is a ziarat site for Shia pilgrims.

20th Jamadi’ ul Akhir – Wiladat-e-Janabe Fatima (s.a).
